In-Person Chicken Workshop
Learn to Raise Chickens Right in Your Backyard!
Taught by Papa John, the workshop includes everything families need to know to raise chicks and maintain laying hens in their Back Yard.
- Brooding chicks
- Maintaining healthy, productive hens
- Visiting the hens and coop for an explanation of the principles employed in the Sustainable Coop. My design is unique in that there is no poop odor and no coop cleaning. My concept is 100% natural, and mimics the living environment of fowl in the wild. 900 folks have attended my workshop since 2010.
Following the workshop, attendees are provided with a detailed summary of the course content. A 'power point' that introduces step by step coop construction is available on the website. Two additional documents are needed for coop construction: Construction Explanation, and Construction Plans.
TIMING - Workshops are scheduled annually in February and March, allowing for coop construction in March or April and the welcoming of healthy Spring chicks. The workshop is 2 hours, usually on a Sunday afternoon.
LOCATION - In-Person workshops are convenient only for folks living in Northern California. Attend our class in Lafayette, or Papa John can present the Chicken Workshop for groups in other Northern California locations, e.g. schools, libraries, farms. If this is of interest, contact Papa John for arrangements.
COST - There is no charge for those attending the workshop, however, registration is required.
REGISTRATION - Registration will be available through this site when dates for 2018 workshops have been scheduled. For an easy reminder, fill out our contact form, and we will send you an email when our next workshop dates are added to the calendar.
